Southeast Valley Reports Little Weekend Storm Damage

Maintenance crews across the East Valley battled minor flooding and fallen trees this past weekend in the aftermath of the monsoon storm that struck the region, officials said.

Rainwater runoff along the US 60 at Val Vista Drive in Mesa was more than a foot deep along the right shoulder’s barrier wall in each direction on Saturday afternoon, Arizona Department of Transportation spokesman Doug Nintzel said.

Pumps were used to drain the runoff water, which limited drivers to the HOV lanes for about an hour, Nintzel said.

Ten ADOT crews scooped two to three inches of mud off the Santan Freeway in the Gilbert area, Nintzel said. Department of Public Safety officers used rolling lane closures throughout the evening but the freeway was never entirely closed.
