6 on women’s team, 5 from men’s honored Wednesday

TEMPE, ARIZ. – The Arizona State University track and field team officially wrapped up the 2012 postseason award campaign as 11 Sun Devils were named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Track and Field team on Wednesday, the USTFCCA has announced.
Six members of the women’s team and five student-athletes from the men’s team earned All-Academic nods when the lists were released today, bettering last year’s total of 11.
Cj Navarro, an ASU CoSIDA Academic All-American, led the way for the women as she took her four consecutive USTFCCCA honor. Navaro finished her graduate degree this season after posting a 4.08 GPA – graduate-work included – in Education Technology. Navarro scored for the Sun Devils in both the hammer and discus competition at the Pac-12 Championships and was just one spot away from qualifying for the NCAA finals in the discus competition.
Redshirt sophomore Constance Ezugha, the Pac-12 long jump champion, earned her second career honor on the list while ASU’s other selections of Hailey Hanna, Alex Hartig,Ashley Lampley and Natasa Vulic were all first time selections.
On the men’s side, John Klinecontinued his postseason haul off All-Academic nods as the First-Team Academic All-American picked up his third career spot on the USTFCCCA list alongside teammate Nick Happe, who also earned his third recognition.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary round).
