Dodgers fall 1-0 to Arizona; Giants up lead to six games


The Giants have all but wrapped up the NL West with 20 games left to play.

San Francisco held on to beat Colorado 9-8 on Tuesday, while the Dodgers fell 1-0 to the Diamondbacks, giving the Giants a six-game lead in the NL West.

The Giants won on another off night from Madison Bumgarner, who allowed five runs and 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. The Giants used seven relievers to get through the remaining 4 2/3 innings, with Guillermo Mota providing the best showing. He struck out four of the five hitters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings.

Still, the official scorer made the call to give the win to George Kontos, who got two outs after replacing Bumgarner in the fifth. Kontos was then removed for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the inning.

Avocado and goat cheese toast with lime and mint

I love avocado, I love toast and I therefore obviously love avocado toast. When I saw this recipe I knew it would be good, and it didn’t disappoint. A great, simple lunch that reminded me of home (because yes, the rumor is true, we eat avocado with pretty much every meal in California).

Avocado and goat cheese toast with lime and mint


2 thick slices of your favourite bread (I used gluten-free)
1 avocado
Juice of 1/4 lime
2 teaspoons chopped mint, plus a bit extra for presentation
1/4 c goat cheese
Olive oil
Salt flakes and freshly ground pepper

Toast your bread. While it’s in the toaster, halve, pit and peel your avocado and scoop out with a spoon. Mash the avocado with a fork and mix in the lime juice and mint. Crumble your cheese and fold it into the avocado mixture, leaving some bits chunky.
