TEMPE — The Arizona State University Wrestling team will host its third annual “Wrestling With the Devil” golf tournament on Friday, Oct. 5 at the Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix, Ariz.
The event is designed to provide members of the community a chance to come out and interact with members of the Sun Devil wrestling program from the past and the present as well as honor some of the greats.
Among those in attendance will be ASU legend Curley Culp. Culp, ASU’s first national champion in wrestling and only heavyweight champion, was recently honored by the ASU wrestling program with a Standard of Excellence Award at the team’s inaugural “Champion’s Dinner”.
In addition, Culp was named by the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Seniors Committee as a finalist for election into the Hall of Fame with the Class of 2013.
Culp will join 15 yet to be named modern-era candidates on the list of finalists from which the Class of 2013 will be selected. The Hall of Fame selection meeting will be held on Feb. 2, 2013, the day before Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, La.
The event is designed to help the program continue to raise money to support the future of Arizona State wrestling and openings are still available for golfers to join the event. Donations to the program and the event itself are also welcomed even if you aren’t able to attend.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. The cost for an individual golfer is $180 and a foursome can sign up for $700. Included in the package are a round of golf, two entries to the awards banquet that will follow that includes a master steak dinner and two drinks tickets, as well as an ASU wrestling t-shirt.
